Crystal Horizons has a long and unusual past.
The company was founded in 1993. Back then it was strictly a commercial
development shop. Our first product, Neural
Net Tutor for Windows was highly successful. It marked a dramatic
shift in the availability of advanced computer technologies.
Suddenly, artificial neural networks, which
typically cost thousands of dollars to purchase, and a PhD to understand,
were available for just a few hundred dollars and presented in a
manner comprehensible by practically anyone who could operate a
spreadsheet program. Neural Net Tutor
was followed up with the TrendMiner,
an industrial strength data classifier.
Data classification is the basis of marketing
campaign management. By being able to assign potential customers
to different categories based upon their interests and spending
patterns, for instance, offers can be more appropriately sculpted.
This increases the probability of success
and allows companies to focus on those customers most likely to
buy. And although this is a popular use for data classifiers, this
is by no means the only one. Any situation in which data needs to
be quickly and automatically sorted into classes, not even understood
beforehand, can benefit from a neural net-based (a.k.a. "artificial-intelligence-based")
data classifier.
In 2006, Crystal Horizons moved its commercial software
development operation to a new company called DarkStar Data Systems, leaving the company to focus on
custom solution development based upon the company's sophisticated development methodology. This unique
methodology places an interative development and testing approach within a guiding architecture framework and
blends current industry best practices with lessons learned in both the public and private sectors.
Crystal Horizons leverages their skill in developing
commercial software to architect, design and develop cutting-edge custom solutions.
Our clients come from both the public and private sectors and include Rogers
Communications and the Ontario Government. Our areas of expertise include n-tiered
e-commerce and decision-support solutions.
